Artist comment: Commissioned by a customer for a kitchen splashback, this is my second reproduction of a Van Gogh

Mosaic does seem to lend itself well to impressionism. Sometime brushstokes look just like mosaic tesserae – the tricky bit is capturing the colour with a limited palette like us mosaicists have. This piece really stretched me with blues & deep blue greens, and I found myself having to choose tiles with blue green colour variations, chopping them into oieces & sorting them into colour groups. A painstaking process but it does give you more freedom with colour.
