Using your completed mosaic.
The following instructions demonstrate how to hang your mosaic, attach it to a small table base, or use it as a trivet or pot holder.
Draw a guideline on the reverse of your mosaic running from top to bottom (centred). Make sure it lines up with how you want the front to appear.
Mark a point on the guideline about a quarter of the way from the top. With a square rule, draw an intersecting line at least 5cm either side of your guideline as shown. Mark points exactly 5 cm either side of the guideline.
Drill screws in on the marked points, leaving about 3mm space so you can wrap your wire around the screws. Tie your wire off as shown, and snip the surplus off with pliers or wire snips.Work is now ready to hang on a nail or screw in the wall. Be sure your nail or screw is big enough & well secured – your work is heavy!
For larger pieces, you might need 2 hangers for extra strength and you can use a heavier guage of wire.Wherever possible, make use of wall studs to secure your work.
To make your piece into a table, you’ll need to locate a suitable stand. If you can get one that’s purpose built for a mosaic inset – all the better. The best method of attaching the two pieces is to drill 3 holes in the top ring of the stand, and put 3 screws through the holes & into the timber backing of your mosaic (making sure the screws aren’t too long).
For use as a trivet, simply cut a piece of felt to size, and glue it to the back of the piece with craft glue or Aquadhere. |
