Question from Kate from Clifton Springs
Hi Brett,
Just wondering if you can use the plastic version of the terracotta pots and if so what glues/adhesives would be best to use.
PS. Since I purchased the DIY kit (Mindseye Chakra) I have been hooked on mosaics and have learnt so much from your website; regards kate

Hi Kate
Thanks for your question
Hmm.. I guess the short answer to your question is that I wouldn’t advise it – particularly if you’re going to move your pot around – it will most likely flex a lot & you might prise tiles off in the process.
On the other hand, just about anything’s possible & if you were really keen to go ahead, you could get a good bond with cement glue if you use an additive like the one I sell through the website. Using the additive is like adding plastic to your cement & will help bond the tiles dramatically. I don’t normally recommend Weldbond & silicone, but this is one situation where they might work well too (maybe someone else could comment on this?).
Importantly, if you go ahead, try to key (rough up) the surface of the plastic with sandpaper or a wire brush to aid with bonding – that will make a lot of difference.
If you want something that’s foolproof though, terracotta pots are a far, far better option & are more or less “bulletproof”.
Hope that helps
Cheers
Brett
