mosaic mural created with ceramic tiles
Artist comment: I’ve thought often about recreating one of the classic paintings. Claude Monet was the artist that usually came to mind, but I also wanted to check out Vincent Van Gogh’s “Starry Night”. I remembered it from many years ago (before I was mosaicing)
Then when I Googled the work it was a done deal – the painting almost looked like a mosaic. It became the obvious choice.
This reproduction was a great learning work for me. The brushworks in the painting are fantastic, but harder than I thought to convert to mosaic. Getting the colour right was also very difficult – us mosaic artists have a fairly limited palette!
Whilst I wouldn’t rush out and do more reproductions in a hurry, it was good for my own experience & I’m very happy with the end result.
I hope Vincent would be OK with it too.
